Putting community needs at the forefront.
Case Study: Cossington Street Sports Centre
Leicester City Council
Upon learning the business requirements for Leicester City Council‘s development of Cossington Street Sports Centre, UK Leisure Framework development partners Alliance Leisure team completely reimagined their existing space, creating an innovative product that better suits the needs of the local community.
Sticking within the budget of £820,000, Alliance Leisure assisted by Saunders Boston Architects and project contractors Etec, successfully transformed the traditional 3-court sports hall into a versatile fitness space measuring 420m2 and incorporating 50 training stations, vastly improving the previous gym offering of only 50m2 of space across two rooms.
The centre’s gym now includes both a fully equipped gym and free weight section and a studio, which features a specialist sprung floor and an independent lighting and audio system. A separate ‘Programmable Gym’ space, which opens up to the main gym using sliding doors, provides a further flexible space which is ideally suited to GP Referral or other more private sessions.
The changing rooms in the centre also received a long-overdue upgrade, and were also reconfigured in order to maximise space.
Finally, the entrance to the centre was relocated, creating a much more welcoming space and improved first impression for visitors.
