Case Study: Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council

The first new leisure centre to be built in Dudley in more than 30 years has opened to the public this month.

The new Duncan Edwards leisure centre is located in Flood Street, Dudley, approximately one mile from the previous centre and occupies part of a council owned car park. It includes: a 25 metre, 8-lane swimming pool; a teaching pool with spectator provision; sauna; a 4-court sports hall; a 100 station fitness suite; two group exercise studios; an immersive cycle studio; a soft play area with catering facilities and a party room; a café; a sauna and a power assisted exercise studio.

All works were delivered via the UK Leisure Framework, managed by Denbighshire Leisure.

During the development ISG, the appointed construction team, received outstanding marks as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme for their practices.

The centre is named in honour of the borough’s most famous sporting son, former England and Manchester United player, Duncan Edwards, who was born and raised in the town
