Peterlee Leisure Centre
Durham County Council
Project value: £4.5 million
Partners: ISG, GT3 Architects, Axiom, Play Revolution, Hutchi, Bowling Vision, OBL, Alliance Leisure, UK Leisure Framework (managed by Denbighshire Leisure Ltd)
The Peterlee Leisure Centre redevelopment was born from a clear vision: to create a space that meets the evolving needs of the community while supporting Durham County Council’s strategic goals around health, wellbeing, and economic regeneration.
The range of exciting new facilities include the main addition of an eight-lane bowling alley. Four of the bowling lanes feature an immersive, interactive scoring system to further enhance the experience. Other new facilities include a bar, café and adventure soft play.
Improvements have also been made to the centre’s fitness offer. The gym has been relocated to a larger space and now features Technogym equipment and technology, plus the addition of a third fitness studio and a wellbeing suite.
A range of energy efficiency measures have also been installed after the council secured funding from the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS).
We are thrilled to be able to reopen Peterlee Leisure Centre following our ambitious refurbishment. As well as being a fantastic place to improve your wellbeing, there is a lot of fun to be had for the whole family in the new bowling alley and adventure areas. The work has been complete as part of our plans to transform and modernise our leisure offer in County Durham to support the health and wellbeing of our residents. We hope that the leisure centre can become a hub for visitors to enjoy for years to come.
