“The first in the borough for a generation”

Case Study: Halesowen Leisure Centre

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council

A regeneration project of two phases, this extensive project has overseen the complete internal and external refurbishment of a previously tired leisure centre. The key objectives for this scheme were to extend its longevity, increase commercial performance, and to provide relevant and enticing facilities to serve its local community. The centre has already seen a 92% increase in membership since completion and re-opening, so the benefits of completing the project have already begun to become clear.

The works completed include:

  • A gym extension which has increased the gym to 70 stations
  • Reconfiguration of the pool area to create a 25-metre main pool and a 12.5 metre learner pool
  • New changing village
  • Creation of a wellness suite
  • Relocation of the entrance and reception to improve customer journey
  • A new, user-friendly reception
  • Conversion of the small pool to a commercially and socially-driven adventure play facility
  • New café to, again, enhance the centre’s commercial offering
  • New façade treatment
  • Curtain walling to the front elevation
  • Landscaping of the surrounding area
